St. Mary’s School

As a parish, we are proud to support St Mary’s  Church of England Voluntary Aided Primary School and Coleshill Voluntary Controlled Infant school.

The Parish Church is represented on the Governing Body of St. Mary’s school by eight Foundation Governors. The Rector serves in an ex officio capacity. Two governors on Coleshill Village school are appointed by the church. Before the interregnum during term time the Rector led weekly acts of collective worship in both schools, before which he welcomed parents and carers at the entrance to the school. We see this as an important part of the ministry of the church. During Covid restrictions the Rector continued to support the schools on a weekly basis by delivering acts of collective worship in both schools online. Members of the congregation also support our church schools through leading Open the Book  bible story telling assemblies. In non-Covid times, the schools have a service in church at Christmas time and at the end of the academic year

St Mary’s has long historical and close connections with Dr Challoner’s Grammar School and Dr Challoner’s High School, Dr Challoner being a former rector.  These schools also have services in St Mary’s at Christmas and at the end of the academic year.

Classes from local schools visit St Mary’s as part of their studies and the visitor information sheets and DIY tours of St Mary’s have been produced to help children with the history and what they can find in St Mary’s.
